Cattle Condition Gauges PDF

Animal condition is the cornerstone of livestock production. If your animals are not in good enough condition to fulfil the next task the farm needs them to perform - produce milk, re-conceive, etc - then then economics of the farm is going to take a hit. The downloadable PDF below is based around three graphics on Animal Condition from my book A Herd Owner's Manual. These graphics on Gut Fill, Dung Score & Body Condition Score explain how these measures can be used to gauge if we are getting it right, or wrong, when it comes to grazing and lick management. 

Please print and use the PDFs to teach everyone on the farm who works with cattle to understand these easy tools and make observing these gauges become second nature. There is no "cruise control" with high density grazing.
